Our History
Our Chapter was formed in May, 1971, in
memory of Maria Paulius and Jimmie and Debbie Cornwall. In October
of 1981, the Chapter's name was changed to Paulius-Lipinski-Callahan,
remembering Susan Lipinski, and Michael Callahan, along with Maria Paulius.
In 2001, we again changed the name, we are now known as the
Lipinski-Callahan-Daly Chapter, remembering Mary Ann Daly, daughter of
Evelyn Mozdzen. We not only remember these three individuals, but
all children and family members lost to leukemia. At this time, our
list includes:
|
Rose Cesario
- Mother of Francine Courtney
Jimmie & Debbie Cornwall
Sandie Eberhart - chapter
member |
Christopher
Kalley
Robbie Kent
Jackie Laydon - chapter
member
Gene Suppelsa - husband of Nancy Suppelsa |
Maria Paulius
Robert Olmstead - husband
of Mona, deceased chapter member
Nancy Pfeiffer |
Our purpose is to raise
funds to find a cure for leukemia. This is done many ways.
First by supporting Central Council Activities such as:
| Ad Book |
Happy day
& Memorials |
Counter
Containers |
Greeting
Cards |
Tagging |
Presently the chapter
sponsors its own unique functions, such as a FALL FESTIVAL, and our annual
Fashion Show and Dinner
The Fall Festival is held at the Walmart in
Orland Hills, Illinois. We have a large bake sale, crafts, books,
and face painting. With the help of WalMart, we have raised over
$20,000 for research in our ten years of this event.
Our annual Fashion Show is the Chapter's
largest fund raiser. The first fashion show was in 1973 when it was
a SEW-IT-YOURSELF fashion show and contest. Homemade cake and coffee
was served and a whopping $1,200 was raised.
At our 2007 event, we had over 300 guests at
the Lexington House in Hickory Hills, Illinois, with Fox News
Chicago Anchor, Mark Suppelsa as our emcee, and both Miss
Illinois USA Mia Heaston, and Miss Teen Illinois USA
Victoria Davis. The show itself is a professionally
choreographed production of fashion and entertainment. We raised
over $16,000 for this years efforts!
This small beginning, over 30 years ago, has
accomplished much (more than $1,000,000 raised) and we have formed many
friendships along the way. We now have a second generation of
members - daughters coming into the chapter continuing the work started by
their mothers.
MEMBERSHIP in the Chapter is not limited to people who have had contact
with a leukemia victim, but is open to anyone interested in helping raise
funds for the research to find a cure for this dreaded disease.
